Interactive Art
Head to the Transit Stage, near the Stevens Point Bus Depot downtown (by the former Shopko parking lot) to try your hand at the public piano. Be sure to look for it during the warmer months of the year before it's stored away for the winter. A local community member donated this interactive art, and every year, something new is painted on it.
Must-see Murals
Give life to your social media feed by adding the vibrant colors of one of Stevens Point’s downtown murals. Take a walk around town to find a picturesque backdrop to snap any Instagram-worthy photo. Even if you are not into photography, it is still worth a trip to see all of the beautiful Stevens Point Area murals.
The Rivermen
Start on the corner of Water and Clark Streets to see the first historical mural, the 'Rivermen'. This mural depicts our history as a part of the early logging industry. Kelly Meredith, the artist, created this mural with the help of community members filling in colors by number.
What the Lion Cannot Manage the Fox Can
Make sure to check out the 'What the Lion Cannot Manage the Fox Can' mural. Painted by Alexander Landerman with a German adage that incorporates both the nature aspects of the county and goals of CREATE Portage County. This mural is an iconic location in downtown Stevens Point that draws people in to admire its magnificence.
The Polish Chicken
Continue on to the Mathias Mitchell Public Square (Known by locals as the Square) and you’ll find another piece of our history, the 'Polish Chicken' mural located on the outside of Process. It is the replica of wycinanki painted by Bernice Bartosz and Dennis Kolinski. It is the only one remaining of the 5 that were painted in 1976. The mural is surrounded by benches and is the ideal spot to sit and enjoy a beverage or treat from the farmers market. From this spot, you can also see the Market Day mural located in the southeast corner of the Square.
