Color the Pointer Dog Sculpture

If you've spent any time on the campus of the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, you've probably spotted this iconic sculpture by a local artist (and UWSP-alumni) August Kochanowski. Pointer sits right between the Collins Classroom Center and the Trainer Natural Resources Building, and is just around the corner from the largest mural in the region - known as 'E Pluribus Unum' - coming in at a massive 150' x 50', with more than 200,000 pieces!

Color the Polish Chicken Mural

Downtown Stevens Point is filled with murals, large and small. Strolling down Artisan Alley, you'll find one of the newest known as the River Passage. On Clark Street, you'll find the bright and bold #GrabtheGlass mural that celebrates Stevens Point Brewery's 160th Anniversary. But, just a few steps from where you'll find the oldest farmers market in Wisconsin, you'll spot the Polish Chicken Mural. Long before Kelly Meredith painted the first of many historical murals in downtown (the first one was completed in 2004), residents would often paint on the brick buildings throughout downtown. While many of them have faded or have been covered up, this one continues to thrive.

Color the Band Shell at Lake Pacawa

While we are all staying in and doing our best to help #flatten the curve, there's no doubt we are dreaming of the summer festival season in Wisconsin! Sitting in the sunshine, sipping tasty craft beverages (including those from the Central Wisconsin Craft Collective) and listening to outdoor concerts. One of those spots, perfect for music (+ fireworks) is the Band Shell at Lake Pacawa in Plover, home to Celebrate Plover held each July!

Color the Rising Star Mill in Nelsonville

The next spot is a peaceful one, enjoyed by art enthusiasts, paddlers, fly-fishers, and coffee lovers. Tucked in the quiet community of Nelsonville, you can't miss the bright red Rising Star Mill that has lived along the banks of the Tomorrow River since it was built in 1868 as a grist mill. Originally built by Jerome Nelson, the mill still serves the community today. Inside you'll find art and history on display, thanks to the work of the Portage County Historical Society. Just around the bend, you'll find Ruby Coffee Roasters, consistently named one of the best coffee roasters in the nation. While coloring this picture, where the banks of the river rush by, it is easy to imagine the sound of the water where fly fishermen and women and countless kayaks pass by

Color the Sand County Bench

This giant reconstruction of Aldo Leopold's design was brought to life by Wisconsin artist, Jacob Brault. The bench became an instant hit within the Stevens Point Sculpture Park, as one of the most photographed pieces. The bench’s classic design resonated well with the park's mission to blend the outdoors with art. Originally installed in 2010, A Sand County Bench was one of five original works to be shown in the park. While the piece was removed due to safety concerns in 2017, it was reconstructed and returned to the park in July 2018, thanks to a generous donor. The measurements are the same, but the updated sculpture includes an edited quote by Aldo Leopold, which reads, "Conservation is a state of harmony between us and Land."
