About the Stevens Point Area

The Stevens Point Area is located in the heart of Wisconsin, at the crossroads of the Wisconsin River Valley and the Central Sands Region. The Stevens Point Area includes all of Portage County, Wisconsin.

Stevens Point

When Stevens Point was founded in 1858, this was a community of loggers, fur traders, and brewers. The community is still known for its outstanding beer and so much more: companies such as Delta Dental, Sentry Insurance, and Herrschners all call this place home. The University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point is one of the community’s treasures. The 400-acre campus includes Schmeeckle Reserve, the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame, the Museum of Natural History, the Carlsten Art Gallery, and the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium.

Amherst

On the banks of the Tomorrow River, you’ll find the Village of Amherst, a quiet but thriving community with a very strong sense of place. Amherst is home to the Tomorrow River State Trail, Lettie W. Jensen Community Center and Central Waters Brewing Company.

Other Gems

The countryside is dotted with small communities like Junction City, Almond, Rosholt, Nelsonville, Park Ridge, Whiting and Amherst Junction. The rural Lake DuBay area in northwestern Portage County offers many recreational opportunities and encompasses most of the townships of Eau Pleine, Hull and Dewey.
