About the mural
The colorful mural celebrates the 160th anniversary of the Stevens Point Brewery and will be a landmark for the community. Point Brewery and CREATE Portage County teamed up and searched for the perfect artist in late February, receiving over 29 submissions from artists and designers from the United States and around the world.
About the artist
Chicago-based artist Nick Goettling was chosen for his winning design that offered a powerful concept. "I don't just want my work to remind passersby that they've been brewing in Stevens Point since 1857," said Goettling. "I want to inspire the people who live there and visitors alike to really think about the decades of locally-grown knowledge, skills, and ingredients that go into a pint of Stevens Point beer. It's nodding to the past while looking forward." Goettling has also done public art in Portland, Washington State, and Chicago and has partnered with Clif Bar, Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, and Lagunitas. (Goettling is pictured below with his finished piece.)
