Explore the local food movement

Some of the best food you’ll find in the Stevens Point Area is part of a local act. Portage County has a rich agricultural tradition, and this region is a wonderful place to explore, meal by meal. The Central Rivers Farmshed promotes local, sustainable food and frequently sponsors tours, cooking classes and other special events. The Market on Strongs is a specialty store featuring hundreds of products from area producers, including seasonal vegetables, grass-raised beef and artisan pasta. Shoppers can explore additional local products at the Stevens Point Area Co-op, which is housed in a historic brick building.

Every Monday-Saturday from May-October, explore the Stevens Point Farmers’ Market, the longest-running market in Wisconsin. Find fresh vegetables, plants, baked goods and more. Or, during the winter, explore the Winter Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, serving breakfast. For more local flavor, don’t miss Ski’s Meat Market which offers 26 varieties of locally-made brats. Wash down a great meal with a fantastic beer from Central Waters – made with renewable energy (or another option for the Central Wisconsin Craft Collective).
