STEVENS POINT, Wis. (May 6, 2024) – The Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (SPACVB) celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week this month, highlighting contributions of the travel industry and spotlighting the essential role that travel plays in driving economic growth in communities nationwide. In honor of National Travel & Tourism Week, SPACVB will host two events to showcase the industry’s significance and benefits it brings to Portage County, Wisconsin.

“We invite the public to join us in celebrating tourism in the Stevens Point Area! With two upcoming events, there are opportunities to learn about the travel and tourism industry in our region. Help us toast to the industry and celebrate its direct impact on economic vitality in Portage County and beyond,” said Sara Brish, executive director of SPACVB.

To celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week, SPACVB will be hosting a Tourism Takeover: Live! From the Stevens Point Brewery as well as the Familiarization Tour.

The Tourism Takeover, happening at Stevens Point Brewery’s new Tap Room on Monday, May 20, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., promises an evening of laughter and libations with a live podcast recording of Pour Another Round—featuring representatives from the Stevens Point Area’s beer, wine, and spirits industry including Stevens Point Brewery, O’so Brewing Company, Central Waters, District 1, Sunset Point Winery, and Great Northern Distilling. Attendees can enjoy food, a complimentary beverage, and the chance to win giveaways throughout the evening. The Tourism Takeover event is free to attend. Please RSVP by May 15, 2024 at bit.ly/TourismTakeover2024

The second event, the annual Familiarization Tour (FAM Tour), is a three-hour guided tour on June 5, 2024, featuring abbreviated site visits to new and popular attractions in the region. This year’s tour includes stops at Guild Designs, Food + Farm Exploration Center, and Stevens Point Brewery and local flavor is infused with snacks throughout the guided bus tour. While geared toward frontline staff in the hospitality industry, the FAM Tour is open to all. Space is limited. Please register for one of two tour times (9-noon or 12:30-3:30 p.m.) at bit.ly/2024FAM

Travel serves as a catalyst for a productive U.S. economy, generating a $2.8 trillion economic output in 2022 and supporting nearly 15 million jobs nationwide. Traveler spending data for 2023 for Portage County and the state of Wisconsin will be released in early June.
