Fun on the Water

Check out this can't miss list for fun in the Stevens Point Area, from swimming to paddling, and fishing to boating. Venture out across the Stevens Point Area to explore the options, from the pristine sandy beach at Sunset Lake to the winding route of the Tomorrow River from Nelsonville to Waupaca.

Get inspired to pack the cooler, launch the canoe, and hit the sandbars of the Wisconsin River with Ande, Alex and Mattie the pup, for a day on the water in the Stevens Point Area #LikeaLocal.

CAN’T MISS LIST:

  • Paddle your way! Whether you are a novice or a pro, explore the distinct paddling routes in the area. Popular spots include Lake Joanis (perfect for beginners), the Plover River (both north and south of Jordan Park), the expansive backwaters of the Wisconsin River (just north of Bukolt Park) and the Tomorrow River

  • From shore or by boat, fishing is a great summertime activity. If you have a boat (or rent one) try exploring the 6,830–acre Lake DuBay, a hotbed for walleyes, northern pike, muskies, and bass. If you’d like more help finding prime spots, hire a local fishing guide. (Remember to pack your fishing license.)

  • Love the water, but prefer to enjoy the water from afar? Plan to visit the Central Wisconsin Water Ski Show Team – The Water Walkers, at South Bay Beach Park on Lake DuBay. The shows, are most Thursdays in June-August and feature everything from full pyramids and lifts to slalom weaves. 

  • For a leisurely activity, try recreational boating along the Wisconsin River. Plan a stop at one of the sand bars for a picnic. If you didn’t plan ahead, don’t worry. Plenty of local establishments are accessible by water on the Stevens Point Flowage and Lake DuBay.
