LAKE DUBAY

River Characteristics

Lake DuBay is a 6,830-acre impoundment of the Wisconsin River. The lake has a mostly sand bottom along with shoreline timber, sunken wood, and many stump fields. Unfortunately, as DuBay ages, it is losing a lot of flooded timber due to the natural deterioration process. Several inlet streams combine with large backwater areas, shallow bays and several islands provide diversified habitat for fish. The flowage has very little vegetation except in the shallow backwater areas.

Note that water levels on the Wisconsin River can fluctuate quickly resulting in changing and dangerous conditions. Call 800-775-6404 for water conditions. Please use extreme caution.

Fishery

Lake DuBay is one of the area's top fishing destinations. It is a scenic body of water that provides many challenges and some trophy fish in several species such as:

  • Walleyes (the most popular species)
  • Smallmouth bass
  • Muskies
  • Northern Pike
  • Catfish

Hot Spots

In early spring, walleyes make a major spawning migration to the upper end of the impoundment to the upper end of the reservoir. Deep channel bends on the upper end of the impoundment will hold prespawn Walleyes. There is also an excellent Walleye spawning run below the Big Eau Pleine Dam that dumps into Lake DuBay on the West Side at mid-flowage. Ice fishing for Walleyes and Northern Pike is popular on many of the shallow bays.

Boat Landings

There are multiple boat landings along Lake DuBay and they include:
