Visual Arts and Outdoors

There are a host of opportunities to see public art in Portage County. This itinerary will guide you to some of these iconic places, like the Stevens Point Sculpture Park and the Korean War Memorial of Wisconsin. It also gives you a heads up on some of the great spots to stop for a bite to eat throughout the day!

Morning

Spend the morning outdoors admiring art at the Stevens Point Sculpture Park. Follow the 20-acre scenic trail as you explore the connection between nature and art. Take in the interesting artwork, including sculptures by local and regional artists.

Lunch

Stroll downtown and grab a bite to eat from one of our favorite pizza places, Polito’s—home of the big slice—located in the heart of downtown Stevens Point. It’s known for its unique varieties like Philly cheesesteak, macaroni, and chicken parmigiana.

Or, grab lunch at The Wooden Chair, a breakfast and lunch spot in downtown Stevens Point known for its specialty sandwiches and décor that includes antique wooden chairs.

Afternoon

See the downtown murals that tell the stories of the area’s iconic figures, hometown citizens, and historical events. Be sure to take a picture with the #GrabTheGlass mural, which celebrates the Stevens Point Brewery's 160th Anniversary.

And while you’re at it …

Take in the mural on the College of Natural Resources Building on the UW-Stevens Point campus. The mural was designed by a former professor and is made up of 250,000+ unique square tiles. Take a few steps back to take in the whole mural and snap a photo.

Or, take in the 2,500-pound, eight-foot tall iron “Pointer Dog” sculpture west of UW-Stevens Point’s Trainer Natural Resource Building.

Extra

Explore the Carlsten Art Gallery at UW-Stevens Point’s Noel Fine Arts Center, known for its student and visiting artist exhibits.

Evening

Honor the rich history of the Korean War at the Korean War Memorial of Wisconsin in Plover. The memorial’s five-figure statue celebrates the standing memory of all the veterans who served our state.
