Happy graduation, Pointers! Searching for the top Insta-worthy spots to pose in cap and gown? Here are the best locations, both on and off of the UW-Stevens Point (UWSP) campus, to commemorate Graduation Day.
Two major signs welcome visitors and Pointers to the UWSP campus. One is the Berard Gateway, located on the east side of campus near the Chemistry-Biology Building, which is a great location to snap an iconic pic. Another is the UWSP sign nestled on the south side of campus, directly off of Main Street, in front of Old Main.
Address: 2101 4th Ave, Stevens Point, WI 54481 and 1817 Maria Dr, Stevens Point, WI 54481
UWSP has been around since 1894, and Old Main carries a rich history that connects past, present, and future Pointers. Pose on the front lawn and grab a wide shot on your camera to capture the well-recognized cupola on top of the building. Old Main is the cornerstone of life at UWSP!
Address: 2100 Main St, Stevens Point, WI 54481
The Pointer Dog sculpture is an iconic landmark on campus. POINTER was constructed in 2011 by UWSP Carlsten Gallery student, August Kochanowski, in his father's studio (Boleslaw Kochanowski). The 2,500-pound, eight-foot-tall dog now sits in front of the Daniel O. Trainer Natural Resources Building, serving as a unique photo op spot.
Address: 800 Reserve St, Stevens Point, WI 54481
Situated on Stevens Point's north side is the iconic Point Sculpture. This sculpture functions as a welcome to the #StevensPointArea and is definitely worth taking a grad pic with.
Address: North Point Dr & BUS 51, Stevens Point, WI 54481
With galleries, sculptures, and murals, the Stevens Point Area boasts beautiful expressions of creativity—including many hand-painted murals throughout the region. Explore downtown Stevens Point to pose by City of Wonderful Water by muralist Jon King, The River Passage by UWSP Environmental Art Class 2018, or What the lion cannot manage, the fox can by muralist Alexander Landerman.
Address: Downtown Stevens Point
At the intersection of nature and art sits the Stevens Point Sculpture Park. A short drive from the UWSP campus, this location is perfect for taking group photos with family, friends, and loved ones. Stop by A Sand County Bench by artist Jacob Brault. Then, check out the rest of the park to experience unique, eye-catching works of art.
Address: 901 2nd St N, Stevens Point, WI 54481
For the nature-lovers, stroll through Schmeeckle Reserve. A bonus? This 280-acre reserve is right on the UWSP campus. On the hunt for a natural photo backdrop? Navigate to Lake Joanis for a stunning setting for your graduation pics.
For a more tropical feel, venture to the Chemistry-Biology Building to check out the Tropical Conservatory on the first floor. With a variety of biomes, water features, and a green wall, this is the perfect stop worthy of a photo shoot!
Ranked among the best college towns and cities in America, the Stevens Point Area offers an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities, events, and year-round fun, making the Pointer experience truly one of a kind.
