The Stevens Point Area is honored to be a partner with SentryWorld, to welcome the USGA's U.S. Senior Open Championship to Central Wisconsin during the summer of 2023. We can't wait to welcome players, spectators, and guests to SentryWorld’s stunning course – routinely named one of Wisconsin’s best – but also all of the activities beyond the greens. To help count down the time before top golfers head to town, read on to learn more about the championship coming to the Stevens Point Area.

The Details:

On February 10, 2021, the United States Golf Association (USGA) announced SentryWorld, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, as the host site for the 43rd U.S. Senior Open Championship. SentryWorld will host its first Senior Open and third USGA championship from June 29-July 2, 2023.

What you need to know:

  • SentryWorld was the state of Wisconsin's first destination golf course. Originally opened in 1982, the course is part of a larger sports complex and soon-to-be boutique hotel. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., he came back to the course (which he called his Mona Lisa), for a major renovation in 2013.

  • Golf is big in Wisconsin. In Golf Digest's rankings of America's top 100 public courses, 10 of them are in Wisconsin. And, all but one of them is within a two-hour drive from SentryWorld. In fact, two of the newest courses, Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes are less than 40 miles away.

  • Championship level courses are accessible. The 2023 U.S. Senior Open will be the 17th USGA championship held in Wisconsin. In 2021, the state will host the Ryder Cup, and in 2022, it will host the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. While many of the best hit Wisconsin courses, you don't need to be a pro along the lines of Steve Stricker to enjoy the same fairways.

  • Mind the flowers, with this must-see spot. Check out the SentryWorld signature hole, the Flower Hole. With a new design each year, featuring more than 30,000 blooming flowers, Hole #16 is a showstopper. Want to check it out without leaving home? Take a virtual tour of the course
