THE AMERICAN SUZUKI INSTITUTE 

July 19-August 1, 2020

The American Suzuki Institute, held each year on the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point campus, brings students, parents, and teachers from around the nation together to practice the philosophy and teachings of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. This year is an even larger celebration as it is the 50th Anniversary! Within the two weeks that ASI students spend in Stevens Point, the program offers various opportunities for the public to enjoy concerts and gatherings from these very talented young students. Read ahead to discover more about what you need to know about this event, and where to find performances and other Suzuki events.

Things To Do

  • Catch live music with a view, with the Levitt AMP Stevens Point Music Series or the City Band concerts along the Wisconsin River, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at Pfiffner Park. Find more live music here.

  • Wander through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus and through downtown to see iconic murals up close. Don't miss the massive 50' x 150' mosaic mural and the colorful #GrabtheGlass mural

  • Hit the trail to and explore the popular 27-mile Green Circle Trail. Overwhelmed by the total distance? Get started in the trail headquarters at the Schmeeckle Reserve, or head to the Stevens Point Sculpture Park to break up the trail.

  • They don't call it the City of Wonderful Water for nothing! Get out on the water from the backwaters of the Wisconsin River, the Tomorrow River or one of the lakes by kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or pontoon. Read this blog for more information on where to find outdoor rentals!

  • Sample the best local goods, available six days a week at the state's oldest farmers market in downtown Stevens Point. 

  • Take a step back in time with a weekend visit to Heritage Park, or pay tribute to veterans at the Wisconsin Korean War Veterans Memorial.

  • Rainy day? No problem! Head indoors for mini-golf at Putt-N-Play to keep your putting game on point. Or, scope out one of the area's arts & culture hotspots, including a stop at the Q Gallery or the Museum of Natural History.

  • Take a tour of one of the oldest breweries in the United States, Point Brewery. While touring, get a sample of beer, cider, or one of their gourmet sodas, including their famous Point Root Beer, Vanilla Cream, Black Cherry Cream, Orange Cream, or Kitty Cocktail. Then, explore more of the local craft beverage makers in the Stevens Point Area known as the Central Wisconsin Craft Collective.

Hungry in the Stevens Point Area? Here are the top food experiences you can't miss:

Check out the local food scene. Make a stop at Feltz's Dairy Store, where after a scoop and some curds, you can also tour the robotic milking operation. Then, go straight to the source with the Stevens Point Farmer's Market, held daily on The Square in downtown Stevens Point, the Market on Strongs, or the Stevens Point Co-op. To make it a meal, hit local favorites that work with local growers for farm to fork cuisine, including a-soshel, Father Fats, MuseEmy J's, or PJ's Restaurant. Learn more about local makers here!

Hit up a hometown favorite. For a comfortable and laid back feel, check out Guu's on Main, Wooden Chair, Hilltop or Polito's. Get your sweet treat fix at Belt's, King Cone or Emy J's.

Navigating the Area

Getting to and around the Stevens Point Area is simple. Attractions and points of interest are easy to get to by car, with maps available here (as well as at the Visitors Center). If you'd prefer to explore the region via public transportation, you'll find Stevens Point Transit (known as the City Bus) includes most of the urban area, with the main hub located in Downtown Stevens Point. For more options, download the Lyft app and request a car, order a taxi through Courtesy Cab or set up transportation in advance with Xecutive Limousine.
