The Portage County Literacy Council invites community members, students, businesses, and other organizations to join us for our annual fundraiser on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the Moose Family Center. This year’s event sponsor is Worzalla, a full-service printing and binding company based in Stevens Point.
Words & Friends for Literacy is a high-energy and fun event. Teams of four participants play a collaborative game of Scrabble® while enjoying a fun night out and a catered meal. Teams have the opportunity to win great door prizes by pooling their Scrabble® letters to make as many words as possible during three timed rounds. The team with the highest score is declared the winner.
Leading up to the event, teams work together to raise money for adult literacy programs. Proceeds from the event support PCLC’s programs, which include one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction for adults. “By participating in PCLC's programs, adults can build their skills and achieve their goals,” said Kristy SeBlonka, PCLC Co-Director. “Our learners want to get better jobs, read to their children, understand health information, participate in the community, and so much more.” PCLC serves adults who want to improve their reading, writing, and/or math skills, and immigrants and refugees who want to learn English and civic information.
We hope to be able to host this event in person, but a final decision will be made in January 2022 depending on what the COVID-19 outlook is in our community. Registration will open in March 2022.
