  • Enjoy “The Blues, Love and Peace: A Jazz Journey II” as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Jazz Band performs its last concert of the semester.
    The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center. Highlights will include performances by UW-Stevens Point music faculty members Brent Turney, Mathew Buchman and Dave Story  in “Come Sunday” by Duke Ellington and vocals by music major Will Toney, Milwaukee, in “Alright, Okay, You Win” by Count Basie and Joe Williams.
    The Jazz Band will also perform “Tuning Up” by Toshiko Akiyoshi, “Shafi” by Mary Lou Williams, “Love and Peace” by Arthur Adams, “Songbird” by Rob McConnell, “Hard Sock Dance” by Quincy Jones and “Central Park North” by Thad Jones.
    Directed by Professor David Hastings, the band is the second large ensemble in the Jazz Studies area. It includes a traditional big band setting of five saxophones, five trombones (with the occasional tuba), four trumpets and a rhythm section with piano, bass, vibraphone and drums.
    Concert tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and staff members and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. Tickets also may be purchased at the door if available. Proceeds support UW-Stevens Point music scholarships.
