  • Overview
  • The UWSP Model UN Summer Camp is a program for students in grades 7-12 to learn about various aspects of world affairs. The camp simulates the activities of a UN body such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Participants assume the roles of diplomatic representatives to the UN as they consider a contemporary international concern such as terrorism, nuclear weapons, immigration, poverty, global warming.

Through this role-playing event, the UWSP Model UN Summer Camp provides participants with an opportunity to (i) learn the basics of the UN as an international organization, (ii) understand key contemporary issues in international relations, (iii) develop an understanding of how inter-state diplomacy works, and (iv) strengthen their research, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.

The UWSP Model UN Summer Camp differs from the Academic Decathlon and the Mock Trial programs in that it is not so much a competition as it is an event. Participants are not required to have any prior knowledge of the UN or Model UN.
