  • Swing in the holidays! Jazz Coterie concert series presents New York vocalist Lucy Yeghiazaryan and renown guitarist Pasquale Grasso. A winter wonderfully way to kick off the season.

“Critics and musicians agree that a new vocal force has arrived on the scene.” — All•About•Jazz

Armenian-born Lucy Yeghiazaryan crafts melodies with an exquisitely tempered, full-bodied voice that’s tailor-made for the great torch songs of a bygone era. She contrasts a fresh, new sound with a tone and timing that gives hints of June Christy and Peggy Lee. The winning ticket is her mix of relaxed confidence and luscious lyric interpretation.

Lucy has established herself as a leading voice in the world of straight-ahead vocal jazz in and outside of New York City. She tours domestically and internationally and is a recipient of grants from the Doris Duke Foundation and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

“A guitarist with the most phenomenal technique and an endless flow of ideas.” — The Guardian

Pasquale Grasso received the kind of endorsement most rising guitarists can only dream of. In an interview for Vintage Guitar magazine, Pat Metheny was asked to name a young musician who’d impressed him. “The best guitar player I’ve heard in maybe my entire life is floating around now — Pasquale Grasso,” said the jazz-guitar icon and NEA Jazz Master. “This guy is doing something so amazingly musical and so difficult.”

Born in Italy and now based in New York City, the 30-year-old Pasquale has developed an astounding technique and concept informed by bebop pioneers like Powell, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, and the classical-guitar tradition.
