  • Learn how scientists track and study birds. We will be learning about migration and bird banding at this special event for kids to get an up-close encounter with birds. A special banding demonstration will be offered by Bob Welch, local ecologist and retired teacher. Event is free and open to the public.

For the banding event, you must register for a time slot. Every half hour, up to 20 people will be welcome in the banding area. We will talk about the birds that we capture, band, and then we will allow the guests to release a bird if they wish.

We cannot guarentee that every child will have a chance to release a bird. Banding is a weather dependent activity. If condtions are not right, capture rates may be low. In some cases, we cannot band at all if the weather conditions put birds in danger. In the event of heavy rain, we will cancel. Please register so we can send notifications.

Junior Audubon is for young people and their parents. Programs target ages 5-12 years old, but all ages are welcome. Our program includes outings and hands-on educational experiences help youth learn about nature and science.
