The Growing Collective, created in 2013, is a group of Stevens Point area gardeners who organize to take on the spring growing challenge together. The Collective grows vegetable starts from seed, including heirloom, organic and unusual selections of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and many more. The group is made up of both first-time and experienced home gardeners, along with several community groups. We believe in organic growing methods to produce high quality plants, collective leadership and group decision-making, collaborative learning among membership to strengthen our growing practices, strong communication and thoughtful planning, shared knowledge, experience, skills, time, and resources, and diversity among our membership.
Each member creates a plant order for themselves and makes a commitment to help care for up to 5,000 plants that will be part of the annual plant sale. Proceeds support Farmshed’s programs and improvements to the downtown site. Besides hosting Farmshed’s biggest annual fundraiser, the Growing Collective is one of Farmshed’s many programs that support its mission and belief in the connection between local residents and their food.
