Ismaila Odogba (Geography and Geology) In western democracies, the median voter model serves as the basis for determining the public interest and the direction of public policy. The actions or decisions of urban planners are in the interest of the public; planners promote the quality of life as a public interest taking into consideration the input of citizens. Planning in Nigeria is institutionally inconsistent with little to no public participation and a strong emphasis on government as opposed to governance. This discussion explores urban planning and citizen involvement in Nigeria by providing insights into the planning process framework.
