NORTHERN SEGMENT

Trails within walking distance in this area include the University Trail that goes through the 280-acre Schmeeckle Reserve (which adds 5 additional miles of trails), the Brickyard trail segment that connects to the Stevens Point Sculpture Park, and the Moses Creek Trail that features the longest boardwalk on the Green Circle Trail. There is a variety of terrain along these trails, they include crushed granite trails, boardwalks, and paved roads. 

Where to Stay

The Country Inn & Suites is the closest option if you are looking for access within walking distance from the trail. The hotel is located just on the edge of the 280-acre Schmeeckle Reserve, which serves as a trailhead for the Green Circle Trail. Places to stay near this segment include: 

Did you know: There is also camping near the northern segment! Jordan County Park has 22 campsites and is only 1.7 miles from the Moses Creek Trail. In fact, the Moses Creek and the Plover River segments can both be accessed off of Highway 66.

EASTERN SEGMENT

The Eastern part of the Green Circle Trail is home to the Iverson Park Trail, the Plover River Trail, and the McDill Trail. During warmer weather, you can enjoy the Plover River backwaters or McDill pond. During the cooler seasons, there are groomed ski trails - 6.2 miles worth on the Plover River trail - as well as plenty more fun at the Winter Sports Area at Iverson, including ice skating, sledding, skiing, and snowshoeing.

SOUTHERN SEGMENT

There are a combined 3.6 miles of hard-packed granite trails along the Whiting Crossing Trail and the Paper Mill Trail - which recently changed. The new route takes reduces the number of sidewalk connections and connects to the Schrader Connection using an abandoned railroad right of way. These trails are great for biking or walking and perfect if you are bringing a four-legged friend along!

The Water Dragon Inn is the nearest option as it is closest to the Whiting Crossing Trail. It is a cozy stone cottage nestled on 5 acres of woodland land right on the beautiful McDill Pond. In addition to the Water Dragon Inn, you’ll find traditional hotel options further south (via the Hoover Spur), including:

WESTERN SEGMENT

Trail Segments Nearby

The western part of the Green Circle Trail is the best option for people looking for smaller loops or looking to explore the east and west parts of the Wisconsin River. Many of these trails run along the Wisconsin River allowing for undeniable, breathtaking views. The trails include:

Fun Fact: While this area is home to many different trails, it is also close to the downtown area of Stevens Point where you can visit the farmers market, look at local murals, visit one-of-a-kind shops, and find some tasty spots to eat

Where to Stay

In downtown Stevens Point, you'll find the Cobblestone Inn & Suites. The hotel is just a few blocks from the Green Circle Trail's Riverfront segment, which winds along the Wisconsin River. If you're looking for a non-traditional stay, you'll also find a Bed & Breakfast and a short-term vacation rental. Places available in this area include:

WHAT IS THE GREEN CIRCLE TRAIL?

The Green Circle Trail is a 27-mile scenic hiking and biking trail that loops through the Stevens Point area. It takes you along the Plover and Wisconsin Rivers as well as showcasing the forests, parks, and wetlands in the area. While there are 12 main segments of the Green Circle Trail, there are 45 additional miles of trails that connect along the way.
