Join me on my dining adventure to Stevens Point Area restaurants as we follow our fork, this time at the Main Grain Bakery. This blog is part of a video series that highlights farm to fork cuisine. For more information on farm to fork cuisine, check out the Central Wisconsin Farm Fresh Atlas.

As soon as I entered Main Grain Bakery, I could smell the freshness of everything. There was a strong smell of freshly baked bread and that is potentially one of the greatest smells. Ever. Owner, Sarah Jo, allowed me to try some of their most popular items including the Asiago Thyme bread, a Lemon Lavender Cookie, and the Oatmeal Cream Pie! All of them pleased my palate. I tasted something savory, something tart, and something sweet.

Know before you go!

Organic and Local

All of their baked goods are made from scratch with organic and local ingredients. In the Asiago thyme bread, you can see the thyme and Asiago cheese radiates throughout. The lavender cookie had specs of lavender throughout and it was a perfect amount of tart and sweet.

Early bird gets the worm

The team starts baking at 5 a.m. and have freshly baked goodies ready at 7 a.m. Enjoy your early morning with a muffin or a scone, or splurge on their cream pies, either oatmeal or chocolate. Their chocolate cream pies were recently in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel! The next day I brought a friend back with me, because I had to try the chocolate cream pie. Heaven.

Flavor pairing

The bakers know how to pair flavors well! I never would have thought to put lemon and lavender together in a cookie. Who knew that fig, fennel, and hazelnut would be a perfect combo for bread? While I was there, I even got to witness the birth of a new loaf. This bread combines beets, fresh dill, and goat feta cheese! This special trio creates a pink loaf of bread.

A big thank you to Sarah Jo and her baking team for letting me come in and try their yummy baked goods. Grab a friend and head to the Main Grain Bakery for flavors you need to try!
