Join me on my dining adventure to Stevens Point Area restaurants as we follow our fork, this time at the CPS Café. This blog is part of a video series that highlights farm to fork cuisine. For more information on farm to fork cuisine, check out the Central Wisconsin Farm Fresh Atlas.
Home. That’s the feeling you get when you take a taste of something from the CPS Café. The café is located right in the heart of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) campus in the College of Professional studies building. Their flavors embody comfort food. I had the pleasure of trying (and finishing) their homemade spicy mac & cheese. I was pleasantly surprised because the jalapeños didn’t overpower the four flavorful cheeses. The added tomatoes gave it a nice sweetness.
Know before you go!
Powered by students!
The kitchen is operated by Dietetic students of UWSP. Because of this, the menu focuses on healthy eating choices with food sourced directly from local farms. The café focuses on green-sustainable practices such as recycling and composting in their operation. The hard work and dedication can be seen in each dish.
Options, options, and more options!
The menu varies weekly and can be found on their website. Fair trade coffees and bakery from scratch are featured every morning. Vegetarian and handmade soups, organic, free-range meats and roasted organic vegetables are offered for lunch. The best part? There are no mysteries. I tried a homemade peanut butter cookie while I was there and it was heaven on earth. All of their fresh baked goods are made with natural ingredients. They even make their own peanut butter!
A big thank you to Kim Beckham and the dietetic students for letting me come in and try some awesome food! Grab a friend and head to the CPS Café for a taste of comfort.
