Plan your Girlfriends Getaway Weekend
Get out with your girlfriends- you deserve it! Read ahead to discover how to plan a night of dinner, drinks, and live music in the Stevens Point Area.
Let's start with brunch! Whether you want to start early, or you’d rather wait until nearly lunch to go out, there are several spots to check out.
For brunch or breakfast for an early riser, don’t miss the Wooden Chair or the Landmark. At the Wooden Chair you’ll find classic breakfast dishes, from omelets to eggs benedict. At the Landmark, change it up and try the Veggie Pesto Breakfast Burrito. Of course, you can always skip that and enjoy a tempting treat from the bakery case instead – we’ll never tell! For a later start, don’t overlook Father Fats Public House. This restaurant is mostly known for their dinner menu, but their brunch items are fantastic- be sure to try their chicken and waffles! For breakfast that starts in a glass, plan a stop at Rusty’s Backwater Saloon. They don’t open until 11am, but it’s worth the wait for their beloved bloody mary. Or, start your day with a visit to the award-winning Ruby Coffee Roasters. This is a great tasting room to explore the flavors they are roasting from all over the world.
Then, get out and explore the region!
Start by seeking out the creative spots. Enjoy the beautiful murals in downtown Stevens Point, check out some galleries with local art, like the Riverfront Arts Center, or stroll through the beautiful Stevens Point Sculpture Park. Find more of the region's best views with a hike through the 280-acre Schmeeckle Reserve with five miles of trails to explore. A little further out, don’t miss the Tomorrow River State Trail or the Ice Age Trail.
With so many great restaurants, deciding where to go might be the most difficult decision on your trip in the Stevens Point Area!
For lunch, check out the area’s oldest restaurant, the classic diner Cozy Kitchen or head to the popular PJ’s Restaurant for classic Wisconsin dishes with a twist. If you are looking for a snack, check out the local foods available. Make a stop at Feltz Dairy Store or Mullin’s Cheese to grab some ice cream or some fresh cheese curds, or stop by the Stevens Point Farmers Market. Starting in November, the popular farmers market moves from The Square downtown to indoors here in the Stevens Point Area, making local food accessible all year round straight from the source. For a sweet treat, consider stopping at the Main Grain Bakery. This adorable bakery has an Instragram-worthy wall of well-loved recipe cards, as well as unique baked goods. More delicious baked goods can also be found at Earthcrust Bakery and the Village Hive in Amherst.
There are two options for your afternoon: relaxing or retail therapy.
To relax, head to the Wellness Spa for spa services. This beautiful spa sits on 8 acres, very close to the Plover River and the popular Green Circle Trail. Whether you want a manicure and pedicure, or you’d prefer a massage, they have a lot of options. Continue in relaxation mode with an event to enjoy, from live performances to craft fairs.
For some retail therapy, you’ll love the amazing specialty shops in the region. Downtown, you’ll find women’s apparel at Girls in Pearls, Bria Bella and Assembly Shop. For home décor and much more, don’t skip Agora Maker's Market. For more unique items, don’t miss Market on Strongs and Real Deals. But, there are also great antique shops dotted throughout the area to explore, like Antique Up or Call it New/Call it Antique. Be sure to visit Beyond Ordinary, tucked in Village Park at Plover, just a few doors down from O’so Brewing Company.
Dinner, Drinks, and Live Music
Start with dinner at one of downtown Stevens Point's restaurants. Head to Father Fats for small plates to share made with local ingredients, or, if you're looking for a more casual feel with a large beer selection and some Wisconsin favorites, try Guu's On Main. If beer is your scene, try Mikey's Bar and Grill and try one of their 67 beers on tap paired with elevated bar food. Or, if dessert is your favorite, be sure to try one of King Cone's 48 rotating flavors of homemade ice cream!
After dinner, head over to Sunset Point Winery right off the square in downtown Stevens Point to try some of their wine made right on-location, or enjoy beer or soda if those are more your fancy. Following your wining and dining, it's time to get ready for live music! Main Street Taps and Elbow Room, both downtown, feature live music on the weekends that can keep the fun going all night, if you wish. In Plover, head over to O'so Brewing Company after your meal to try one of their 40 beers on tap made right on location in their working brewery. O'so also has live music regularly that you and your girlfriends will love! For a creative cocktail made from their made-on-site spirits, check out Great Northern Distilling.
