Winter Recreation
When conditions exist, experience the stunning views of winter in the Stevens Point Area. Start by cross-country skiing through Standing Rocks County Park, located in eastern Portage County. Or, try gaining a little more speed, by exploring the downhill skiing at Standing Rocks Park. While cross–country skiing is also available at Iverson Park, for more winter fun, bring a sled and enjoy the sledding hills or the toboggan runs.
If the conditions are right, try snowshoeing the Ice Age Trail. Portions of this 1,000–mile footpath travel through eastern Portage County, linking history, cultures and geological features.
For a little more speed, try snowmobiling in the Stevens Point Area. With more than 300 miles of groomed trails, plan to stay at a hotel just off of the trail for easy access. Or, try a different pace as you ride through the quiet winter woods by horse–drawn sleigh at Wild West Campground & Corral.
